SHELTER ADVOCATE
(Positions available for Evenings and Weekends)

Assist with
resident intakes and exits |

Answer
Newhouse or Metrowide hotline |
|
|
Distribute
needed supplies to residents |
|
|
Serve
as a role model for residents by offering support and understanding |
Skills
necessary: trustworthy, the ability to listen and empathize,
nonjudgmental and able to handle various job tasks simultaneously.

CHILDREN'S ADVOCATE
(Schedule varies)

COURT ADVOCATE
(8:00 am to 12:00 noon M-F)

Act
as a liaison between witnesses and the city prosecutor
in KCMO municipal court |

|
Provide
information to witnesses regarding available resources,
safety options, domestic violence education and
shelter services (any time) |
Skills
necessary: good communication and listening skills,
nonjudgmental attitude, trustworthy, able to work with
court personnel.

SPEAKERS BUREAU
(Mostly evenings, some weekends and daytime)

Represent
Newhouse while educating the public about domestic
violence, Newhouse programs and the services available |

Promote
the right to live in a violence-free environment |

Give
speeches to civic groups, churches, businesses |
Skills
necessary: good communications skills, personable, prompt,
enjoy speaking in front of groups.

Assist in the planning and implementation of the various Newhouse events and fundraisers. |
