We rely on the time, talent and skill of all of our volunteers. Without the generosity and giving nature of people like you, we would not be able to effectively provide our life-saving services.

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available at Newhouse. Listed below are the positions for which we currently have the most need. Volunteer training is provided. The first step in volunteering at Newhouse is completing all 3 components of our volunteer application.  If you have any questions, contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 816-474-6446 x225 or volunteercoordinator@newhouseshelter.org. Click here to fill out the volunteer application, confidentiality contract, and background screening form and mail or fax to:

Interested candidates must have a love for children, and awareness of their interests, and patience for distressed behavior.

(Evenings and weekends, at least 2 hours, one day per week)

Spend time with a specific age group of our youth residents. Eat pizza, play basketball, help them with homework, play board games, etc.

Interested candidates must be reliable and willing to commit to a regular schedule. Candidates must be patient, understanding and of course, be a positive role model for youth.

Although both men and women are welcome and encouraged to apply for this position, we are in specific need of positive male role models.

Case Manager Assessment Coordinator

Interested candidates must be compassionate, nonjudgmental, assertive, responsible and discreet.

Event Planner (Time commitment will vary according to Event Planner’s schedule and type of event)

Organize your own fundraiser benefiting Newhouse. Join forces with your friends, neighborhood, church group, Girl Scout troop or co-workers to plan a party or event to raise money for victims of domestic violence and their children. Newhouse has “How To” guides detailing how to coordinate events from car washes and pancake breakfasts to golf tournaments and food and wine tastings. You can choose from our list, or create your very own event. Whatever you decide, Newhouse staff will be here to guide you and answer any questions you have.

Interested candidates must possess organizational skills and dedication and must have the ability to organize and promote an event.
