Julia

Julia lived a life on the streets, earning money for a drug habit through prostitution. She sought refuge in a shelter in August of 1994, after trying to escape from her pimp. He abducted her, raped her, sodomized her while keeping her handcuffed to a pole, then forced her to watch him having sex with his girlfriend. Three days after entering the shelter, Julia left. She called back later, asking to re-enter the shelter because she feared running into her abuser. The case manager told Julia that if she wasn't coming back that day to be sure to call and let her hear from her and to "be safe." The call ended. Shortly after noon, Julia was taken at gunpoint to Penn Valley Park, where the scene was captured by television cameras at a TV station across the street. She was shot and killed.
